ABBOTTABAD – A rare leopard met a tragic end in Abbottabad after being subjected to a brutal attack by locals on the outskirts of Boi. The injured animal, believed to have wandered from the nearby forest into a settlement under Bakoat police station’s jurisdiction, was beaten with sticks and stones before being dragged along the road.
Witnesses reported that the leopard was semi-conscious when a rope was tied around its neck. It was then pulled across the road, with some attackers dragging it by the tail for several miles. Many bystanders filmed the disturbing incident, taking selfies and videos that later went viral on social media. Some residents claimed the assault was an act of revenge for recent livestock killings in the area.
Police from the Boi checkpoint eventually reached the scene and took the leopard into custody after much effort. Sadly, the animal died from its injuries shortly after arriving at the police post. The Wildlife Department later took possession of the carcass.
Locals allege that wild leopards have killed dozens of goats in the past months. Wildlife officials noted the leopard may have been poisoned or infected with a virus that affects the brain.
