China Unveils 3-Year Plan to Advance Artificial Intelligence Standards and Emerging Technologies

In a strategic move aimed at bolstering its position in emerging technologies, China has unveiled a comprehensive three-year action plan focused on enhancing standards, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI).

The initiative, jointly issued by the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, was made public on Wednesday through an official statement.

The plan outlines a meticulous standardization process that will be undertaken by Chinese experts and institutions across various domains, including generative AI, blockchain, cloud computing, quantum information, brain-computer interfaces, next-generation internet, and metaverse technologies.

The primary objective of this standardization effort is to drive technological advancement and economic growth while simultaneously elevating China’s global influence in these critical areas.

Emphasizing the importance of information flow within a system, the plan underscores the role of national standards as a fundamental pillar supporting high-quality development.

Looking ahead, the plan sets ambitious goals for the post-2027 period, envisioning a scenario where standards play a pivotal role in guiding technological innovation and fostering economic and social progress. It anticipates a substantial increase in China’s contributions to and influence on international standards during this timeframe.
