The United States designates Margaret MacLeod, proficient in Urdu, to serve at the London Embassy

The US State Department has designated Margaret MacLeod, fluent in both Urdu and Hindi, as a spokesperson in London with the aim of improving communication with South Asian linguistic communities.

MacLeod acquired proficiency in Urdu and Hindi through her diplomatic assignments in India and Pakistan.

Expressing her enthusiasm for Urdu, she highlighted how her time in Pakistan facilitated her learning of both the formal and colloquial aspects of the language.

As an experienced American diplomat, MacLeod is currently stationed at the US Embassy’s International Media Hub, actively engaging with South Asian media, particularly in India and Pakistan.

With a doctoral degree in Sustainable Development from Columbia University, she has undertaken various international assignments during her career. Included here are some clips showcasing her fluent speaking abilities in Urdu and Hindi.
