“President Alvi Suggests November 6th as the Election Day”

President Dr Arif Alvi wrote a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, suggesting November 6 as the date for the upcoming elections. The president mentioned that he dissolved the National Assembly on the advice of the prime minister on August 9. Referring to Article 48(5) of the Constitution, President Alvi stated that it empowers and mandates the president to set a date for the general election within ninety days of the dissolution. Therefore, based on Article 48(5), the general election for the National Assembly should be conducted by the 89th day after the dissolution, which falls on Monday, November 6, 2023.
