Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer Latif Khosa found themselves in another face-to-face encounter during a court hearing. The exchange took place while addressing a case related to employment in the Supreme Court.
During the proceedings, Latif Khosa, representing PTI, urged the Chief Justice to schedule another hearing for a petition filed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan against his disqualification in the Toshakhana case.
In response, CJP Isa pointed out that Khosa tends to make allegations outside the court while simultaneously seeking relief within it. He remarked, “On the one hand, you do not trust the judiciary, and on the other, you also ask for relief.”
Justice Isa advised Khosa to file an application for an expedited hearing, assuring that it would be considered in accordance with the law.
In a related development, PTI withdrew its petition from the Supreme Court seeking a level playing field in the upcoming general elections. During the hearing, Latif Khosa stated that the party opted to go to the people’s court for the preservation of democracy and consequently withdrew the appeal.
The three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarrat Hilali, oversaw the proceedings. Khosa expressed the party’s intention to appeal to the court of 250 million people and conveyed appreciation to CJP Isa, stating, “Thank you very much.”
In response to CJP Isa’s inquiry about the pursuit of the case, Khosa explained that he had been instructed to withdraw the application. He highlighted the party’s initial quest for a level playing field for transparent elections but expressed dissatisfaction with the judgment, citing the allocation of symbols like glass, eggplant, and bowl.
